Chilworth to Guildford, 1 July
The walk. Ten Miles. The morning section of the walk is gently undulating with an ascent of about 100 m. The afternoon is a little more strenuous with an ascent of 200 m but with the reward of a fine view from St Martha’s.
Travel arrangements are unchanged – 9.30 train from London Waterloo. Guildford 10.02 then Bus number 32 from Friary Bus station at 10.30. Chilworth 10.43.
Lunch at Shere. Picnic or a choice of two decent pubs, the White Horse and the Bray, as well as a couple of cafes. The walking group should get there in a little over 2 hours, so just before 13.00.
If you miss the 32 bus then you can catch the 11.30 and have an hour to look around Shere.
If you want to come just for lunch, or to do the afternoon half of the walk, you can catch the 12.30 bus.
If you want to do the morning half only, then buses back to Guildford are at 13.22, 14.22, 15.22 etc.
Alternatively you can take the bus onwards to Dorking Rail Station at 13.53 14.53 etc arriving Dorking Rail station 25 mins later. You will probably need to buy a rail ticket to the boundary of zone 6.
A word of caution, on one of my walks over, the 32 bus from Shere didn’t show up.
