Frinton-on-Sea to Walton-on-the-Naze, 10 Aug

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Fancy a nice walk on a sandy beach? Or a paddle in the sea?  Then this walk is for you!  [But remember to bring a towel to wipe your feet!]  There’s also a great circuit around a beautiful nature reserve in the afternoon.

Train Departure is from Liverpool Street Station at 09.18 with a 6 minute change at Thorpe-Le-Soken. Arrival at Frinton is at 10.48  Please buy a return ticket to Walton-on-the-Naze.  The train also stops at Stratford and Colchester.

Return journeys from Walton-on-the-Naze are hourly. There are no dropout points.

The Walk (Ten Miles) We will walk along the main street through Frinton to access the beach, where there are public toilets available.  We will then proceed north towards Walton – either walking along the main promenade, past the multi-coloured beach huts and pier or on the sandy beach crossing over the groynes.  The walk is flat but there is a small climb with some steps up to Walton Tower.

Lunch This will be at Walton Tower where there are 2 cafes (indoor and outdoor) with a shop plus toilets at the Visitor Centre.  You can also picnic here.  There will be an opportunity to climb the Tower for fabulous views of the Essex coastline and there is also a small Art Gallery.

After lunch we will walk around the remote Nature Reserve, which will take approximately 2 hours, before heading to Walton-on-the-Naze station.  I will be aiming for the train which departs just before 5pm.
