Kenley to Coulsdon South

Published by Janet V on

2 November. Fourteen ramblers arrived at Kenley Station for the short, steep climb up to Riddlesdown Common. Some unusual sheep (possibly Jacob’s Sheep) are now on grass control. And large placid brown cows – quite indifferent to people walking by – could also be seen, in and out of the bushes.

Spot the cow!

We went through Kenley Woods to the Fox on Coulsdon Common for lunch, where we were early enough to beat the usual rush. (One person got the bus home from here.) Then on to Chaldon Church – which was open (it isn’t always). It’s always gratifying to introduce this church to people who haven’t seen it before, with its remarkable medieval wall painting (the winnowing of souls). Then homewards along the ridge of Farthing Down, passing more browsing brown cows.

Janet. With thanks to Christine M, Ljuba and Mary for photos.
