Waterloo to CanadaWater

7 December. The stormy weather scuppered Terry’s planned walk. We look forward to joining it another time.

Our group of six set off along the South Bank of the Thames towards Bermondsey and enjoyed a coffee stop at the Oxo Tower. The break produced Improved spirits and better weather although still cold and damp. Borough Market was very crowded, but Southwark Cathedral was the next beautiful escape from the elements.

A tempting cinema

5 continued from London Bridge past the marketeers bravely trying to provide Christmas cheer. Then inland from Jacob’s Island in search of an early lunch. The Angel pub at Rotherhithe was the agreed venue, back on the Thames path.

Nobody sought a long walk in the afternoon, but there was time to visit two churches. St Mary’s at Rotherhithe is not often open on our walks, but was an interesting stop today. Both the Finnish and Norwegian churches were open for their Christmas Fayres. The Norwegian church is very beautiful, but today was a shop and venue for the raffle, so it’s environs could not be properly appreciated.

it was a short walk to Canada Water station for options to return home. Tony
