Balcombe Circular, 19 Apr
Travel: Buy return to Balcombe, unless dropping out at lunchtime. Train 9.35 London Bridge, arrives Balcombe 10.16 (destination Brighton, and calls earlier at King’s X St Pancras and Blackfriars, then also East Croydon).
Return Bus 272 from Brighton to Crawley provides an approximate 2 hourly service at Ardingly and Wakehurst Place to and from Three Bridges. Return train from Balcombe at 25 and 55 each hour.
The Thameslink train is walk through but likely to be fairly full. Meet at Balcombe Station. No toilets after train before Wakehurst Place.
Lunch: Picnic or cafe in Visitor Centre at Wakehurst Place. Anyone wishing to drop out and visit Wakehurst, note reduced entrance fee for those with proof of public transport. Or bring any membership entitlement.
The walk is 10 miles with a number of short but steepish climbs. Only 1 stile. Walking poles advisable. Approximately 6 miles before lunch.
Likely some rain, but lovely countryside and wild flowers. And your company. Leader: Tony
