Aldermaston to Midgham, 8 July

The Walk

Ten Miles. The walk starts with a busy road crossing,  then a steady uphill route for about a mile and a half. There are no further difficulties other than two fields in the afternoon where there are warnings about the grazing cows. If we get some rain, there could be mud and puddles.

Travel

Buy a return to Midgham 

Take a fast train to Reading, latest 9.32 to take the train for Newbury, probably platform 1 (but check) leaving Reading 10.12. Meet at Aldermaston station 10.24. 

If you choose to travel to Reading on the Elizabeth Line, those with Freedom passes can just get a return from Reading to Midgham. BUT there is often a limited service on that line at weekends, so check before travel and ensure arrival at Reading for the connection. 

Lunch

Our usual lunch stop has two large bookings that day, so we may use it for an additional drinks break. We will have an early lunch stop around 12 o’clock at Chapel Row where there is a pub and cafe. It will be helpful to know if you wish to eat in either, but please message on or after Tuesday 4th. 

Drop out points (none)

There is only one train per hour from Midgham back to Reading, and no drop out points other than a lunchtime taxi.
