Change to ramble, Saturday 30 Sept
Due to rail strikes my walk from Sole Street in Kent will have to be changed.
Instead, I’ll be leading a linear walk in Epping Forest, starting from Loughton Tube station, ending at Theydon Bois tube station (all within freedom pass zones) – distance: approx. 8/9 miles
Meet at Loughton tube station @ 10am (Central Line – Epping branch)
The Walk: We’ll make our way to Connaught Water before joining a wide path ‘Green Ride’ – most of the paths we’ll use are broad gravel paths, but short sections may be muddy if rain during the week. The morning is relatively flat, but before lunch there are a couple of quite steep hills.
The afternoon is an attractive route but has many more hills and what goes up must come down. We’ll pass by a deer enclosure – they can be shy but we might spot some in the high grass beyond the trees.
Hazards: We’ll have to cross several very busy roads that run through the forest with no official crossings, so extra care has to be taken as the cars go very fast.
Lunch at High Beach – there’s a pub, outdoor café, Seafood café/bar, picnic area, public loos and a Visitor’s Centre. NB: I shall not be making a booking for lunch at the pub, they have a very large beer garden and the weather forecast so far looks good (but could change of course).
Break off: There’s no easy break-off as there is no bus service on a Saturday to High Beach or nearby.
Happy walking,
Sigrid
