Upminster Bridge to Rainham, 3 Feb
CHANGES to start point and length. Due to bus replacement and general tedium of the first part of the advertised walk I have decided to shorten it! So it’s more of a stroll than a walk – but will be of particular interest to bird watchers
The Walk – 5 miles
The walk mainly follows section 23 of the London Loop tracing the course of the Ingreborne River.
The terrain is generally flat and uses hard footpaths.
The Ingreborne marshes are a great habitat for birds – and also include the reclaimed site of former RAF Hornchurch used for spitfires in WW2.
Transport
Train to Upminster Bridge, District Line. Meet at the station exit 10.30 a.m
Trains back from Rainham – main line to Fenchurch street and underground.
All in freedom pass zone.
Refreshments
Lunch At Ingrebourne visitor centre. Excellent view over the marshes . The cafe serves hot drinks, sandwiches, soup and basic pastry snacks.
Picnic tables outside.
Tea At Rainham Hall, National Trust Georgian Manor House. Cafe open until 4 p.m. Free community garden NT members may want to visit inside or pay £6 if not a member.
