Coulsdon South circular
13 January. A grey but largely dry day, and we avoided the worst mud. We skirted alongside the edge of Farthing Down in the Morning, through Happy Valley and up to Chaldon Church. This had been open when Christine M and I did the recce, but unfortunately it was closed at just before midday on this Saturday.
The Ladder of Doom wall painting in Chaldon Church dates to about 1200 AD.

But we did find the Chaldon Cairn at the back of the Church. The cairn was built to raise awareness of species endangered by human activity, on lost species day 2019
Then we made our way through the golf course to the Fox for lunch. And home through the woods and across the ridge of Farthing Down.
Thanks to Sigrid for additional photo. Janet
