Robertsbridge Circular, 1 June

Published by Janet V on

This walk is much muddier than I expected for the time of year. You are advised to bring poles for navigating the mud – which makes this 9-mile walk feel more like 10. There are about ten stiles, two or three of them difficult (one almost impossible). Two busy roads to cross. That said, this is a gently undulating walk, with lovely views, and lunch next to Bodiam Castle.

Trains are as on the programme: Charing Cross 9.08, Waterloo East 9.11, London Bridge 9.17; arrive  Robertsbridge 10.28. I shall join the train at London Bridge (station exit is near the front of the train).

Lunch: is at Bodiam, where there is a National Trust cafe or a pub (I shan’t be booking a table), and there is also a green with benches if you prefer a picnic.

Dropout point. There is no easy drop-out point, but you can get the 346 bus which leaves Bodiam every two hours (13.48 and 15.48) for a 40-minute bus journey to Hastings where you can get a train back to London (but you would need to extend your train ticket).
