Fishbourne to Bosham, 28 Sep

Published by Morley Ramblers on

Time and Tide Wait for no Man’: The walk is is 9-10 miles but, including the train journey from London (1 hour and 36 minutes each way), it will be a long day. Slight variation in the timing may be caused by tides which affect the opening of lock gate at Chichester Marina, and the ferry journey from West Itchenor. Please bring cash (£3) for the ferry at West Itchenor.

Train: Victoria 09.05; Clapham Junction 9.12; East Croydon 9.23; arrives Fishbourne 10.41. Buy a return ticket to Bosham. Hoping to get the 17.02 back from Bosham, arriving Victoria 18.45.

Lunch/elevenses: Please bring a snack (or a divided picnic lunch) for elevenses near the Marina, as we will have a latish lunch stop at West Itchenor (the Ship Inn).

The walk is largely flat and stile-free, starting from Fishbourne station, and generally following shoreline of Chichester channel to the Marina, with picturesque sightings of swans and yachts. We stop near the Marina for coffee/elevenses at Scuttlebut Café, Birdham Pool, and then take the footpath (inland and shoreline) to West Itchenor, the Ship Inn, where we lunch.

After, we take a short ferry ride over the Bosham Deeps to the shore of Bosham Channel, and we walk the shoreline through to Bosham. If it is high tide, after alighting the ferry, we go inland for a bit before emerging on the road leading to Bosham. At Bosham we head for Wendy’s tearoom in Bosham Lane (with access to interesting parish church). After tea we follow roads/s through to Bosham station – allow 35 minutes.

Leader, Sally.
